MACO Presents Awards to Outstanding Members

The Minnesota Association of County Officers (MACO) named Nicollet County Recorder Kathryn Conlon to its Honor Roll at its annual conference held January 13-16 in Bloomington, MN.

The Honor Roll is the highest honor awarded each year by the MACO organization. The award is presented by the president of MACO to a member in recognition of outstanding service and contributions to the Minnesota Association of County Officers. The Honor Roll has been given annually since 1996. Conlon was recognized for your efforts managing the conference committee, which she has done for the past several years and in particular for coordinating the move to a new facility in 2009.

MACO is comprised of county Auditors, Treasurers, Recorders and Financial Officers in Minnesota. All 87 Minnesota counties are members. MACO is made up of individual associations of Auditors and Treasurers and a separate association of Recorders. These include the Minnesota Association of Auditors, Treasurers and Financial Officers (MACATFO) and the Minnesota County Recorders Association (MCRA).

In additional to the Honor Roll Award that is presented to one member from the combined associations, awards also are presented to an outstanding Auditor, Treasurer and Recorder.

Fran Windschitl, Rice County Auditor-Treasurer, received the outstanding member of the year award from the Minnesota Association of Auditors, Treasurers and Financial Officers (MACATFO) as outstanding Auditor of the year for 2008.

Joyce Oliver, Waseca County Treasurer, received the outstanding member of the year award from the Minnesota Association of Auditors, Treasurers and Financial Officers (MACATFO) as outstanding Treasurer of the year for 2008.

Larry Dalien, Anoka County Director of Property Records, received the outstanding member of the year award from the Minnesota Association of County Recorders (MCRA) as outstanding Recorder of the year for 2008.

Also at the annual MACO meeting and conference, Becker County Auditor-Treasurer Ryan Tangen was elected president of MACO for 2009. Newly elected members of the Board of Directors were Elda Mae (Bunny) Johnston, Morrison County Recorder and Lisa Kramer, Dodge County Finance Director.

Honorable Distinction for Stearns County Auditor

Stearns County Auditor-Treasurer, Randy Schreifels, received one of the state’s highest honors. He was voted Auditor of the Year by MACO (Minnesota Association of County Officers).

It was an honor bestowed on him by his colleagues around the state. Auditors in all Minnesota counties received a ballot to nominate who they believed deserved to be recognized as Auditor of the Year. From those votes, Randy Schreifels took home the distinction.

“It is a real honor to be recognized by my peers”, commented Schreifels.

Schreifels was acknowledged for his service on committees and his dedication to the MACO organization. Particularly, he was honored for his work in the E-Commerce area.

Schreifels has been real active in trying to implement a state-wide property tax payment application, which would allow citizens to pay all their property taxes at one location online, regardless of which county the property lies in. Schreifels has also worked with the State Auditor’s Office to come up with best practices for the payment portion of electronic real estate recording. Also in the E-Commerce area, Schreifels has been working to find one vendor to do all electronic payments in the State. This would make the process standard for citizens as well as allow all counties to get better pricing and save money. Lastly, Schreifels serves on the Legislative Committee.

Randy received the honor at MACO’s annual conference in Minnetonka.
