About MACO

The Minnesota Association of County Officers "MACO" was first formed in 1960 and called itself "Better County Government, Inc."

The Initial membership included Registers of Deed, Probate Judges, Clerks of District Court, Welfare Department Directors, County Auditors, County Treasurers and County Assessors. In 1968 the name was changed to Minnesota Association of County Officers. Statements from the original bylaws read:

This corporation favors a statewide uniformity in practices and procedures of county officers so that the public can rely on similar  treatment throughout the state....The public interest can best be served if  all offices in county government can work together in a spirit of harmonious cooperation. To achieve this result, this corporation is dedicated to  encourage friendliness, cooperation and understanding among all county  officials and employees.

Today the MACO Membership consists of auditors, auditor-treasurers, treasurers and recorders from all 87 counties.

Membership remains committed to cooperative efforts within county government, respectful treatment of all and service to the citizens of each county in the state.
